Canadian Business Counts

Canadian business counts—previously called Canadian business patterns—provide counts of active businesses by standard industry classification (down to 6-digit NAICs) and employment-size categories for Canada and the provinces and territories. While Canadian business counts disseminated through the Library's membership in the Data Liberation Initiative provides geographical detail down to the census metropolitan area level (i.e. city), the Library has purchased Canadian business count files from 2010 to 2016 down to the census tract level (i.e. neighbourhoods) for all census metropolitan areas in Montreal. Files are available for download below.  Please note that while the initial acquisition was a monetary purchase, post-purchase, these files are governed by the Statistics Canada Open Data License and can be freely shared.  Also, to open the files requires the download and installation of Beyond 20/20 software which is used by Statistics Canada for a large proportion of tabular data dissemination.
