McGill Community for Lifelong Learning (MCLL)

A guide to help MCLL members navigate McGill Library and discover resources to support their lifelong learning.
Further to Quebec government and university directives, McGill campuses are currently closed. As a result, all library branches are closed until further notice. Library staff will continue to provide virtual reference during service hours. I will also be available via email and virtual consultation. For more information about the closure, please visit our COVID -19 | Library Closure & Service Disruptions FAQ.

Visiting library spaces

All branch libraries are closed until further notice, but I invite you to explore the different McGill Library branches and locations when they are open once again. Each has unique spaces and collections. They are open to the public during regular hours, which differ by library branch.

Some of the things that you can do in the library include:

  • Work quietly in a silent study space
  • Work in groups in areas where noise is permitted
  • Use computer workstations and software: See the McGill email address activation PDF "how to".
  • Scan, print, and photocopy: Bring a USB key and try out our Spirit scanners, or purchase a print card (more info here).
  • Borrow or consult books and other physical items (CDs, DVDs, etc)

Borrowing physical items

If you have previously made a library borrowing card, you have access to the McLennan-Redpath Terrace Pickup Service. You will have to complete a form for each item that you wish to borrow, by first signing in to the page with your McGill email address and password. You will also need to enter the barcode on your borrowing card into the form (omit spaces in the barcode but include any letters).

Your borrowing card will only be valid up to the expiration date on your MCLL membership card and must be renewed twice per year. To renew your borrowing card, please email with a copy of the MCLL registration receipt that you received by email.

If you have never had a library borrowing card, one can be made for you to pick up. Please email to request a card.
