New EBSCOhost User Interface

EBSCOhost Databases New User Interface - December 15

On December 15, 2025, McGill Libraries' access to EBSCOhost databases will migrate to EBSCO's new User Interface (UI).

View the new UI including the new My dashboard area.

Consult EBSCO's new User Interface Quick Start Guide here

What is Changing?

All EBSCOhost databases including CINAHL will move to the new search user interface on December 15. It will represent a new "look and feel" to the search page, as well as a new Dashboard area for your personal account (if you created one).

Why is this Change Necessary?

EBSCO has outlined their changes, saying they "have reimagined the new EBSCOhost experience and user interface (UI) based on customer feedback, usage data, user research and usability studies. The redesigned UI presents users with new, intuitive ways to refine, save and share search results." This is "to meet ever-evolving user expectations for accessing, searching, choosing and using the library’s resources." EBSCO will be moving all libraries to the new interface by December 31, 2025.

What Action is Required by Me?

If you use the My Folder space in EBSCOhost note that some sections--including alerts and custom folders--will not migrate to the new interface. If this applies to you, please see the section below for important information and instructions on how to proceed.

My Folder Migration

Action Required: If You Use the My Folder and My Custom Folder Areas in EBSCO Databases

Some My Folder areas will automatically migrate to the new interface, but some folder sections will NOT MIGRATE.

Any customised or shared folders must be downloaded to your computer or their folder contents saved to My Folder to be retained. Search Alerts and Journal Alerts will NOT MIGRATE and must be recreated in the new interface dashboard.

To see your migrated content log in to the new interface dashboard (see below, "Where to Find My Folders in the New Dashboard").

My Folder Section

The following My Folder sections will NOT migrate and you must download or recreate their contents before December 15 :

Not migrating: Companies, Webpages, Persistent Link to Searches, Notes, Pages, Other content sources, Search Alerts, Journal Alerts

The following My Folder areas will be migrated by Ebsco for you. They can be already accessed from the new interface as soon as you log in:

Will migrate: Articles, Images, Videos, eBooks, audioBooks, Checkouts, Holds, Saved Searches*

*Saved Searches will migrate but the migration process contains certain limitations. We recommend you verify your migrated saved searches in the new dashboard to ensure their completeness. Please also consult the limitations section in EBSCO documentation.

My Custom and Shared By Folders

Any items in Custom or Shared folders will NOT migrate and you must move them to the My Folder section to be migrated. See an instructional video from EBSCO on this process. The custom or shared folder contents can also be downloaded or emailed to yourself.

Below is a visual indication of the affected areas and required steps.

**Saved Searches will migrate but the migration process contains certain limitations. We recommend you verify your migrated saved searches in the new dashboard to ensure their completeness. Please also consult the limitations section in EBSCO documentation.
