ProQuest One Sustainability now available

November 13, 2024

ProQuest has recently released a new trans-disciplinary research platform, ProQuest One Sustainability which is now part of McGill's ProQuest license. Designed for the teaching, learning and research of issues relating to sustainability, the platform groups access to related academic journals, e-books, case studies, dissertations, and article abstracts from A&I databases in the field. 


Weekend Downtime for ACLS Humanities Ebooks

On Saturday, October 12, the ACLS Humanities Ebooks platform will be undergoing maintenance from approximately 8 AM until 4 PM, EST.

The publisher apologizes for any inconvenience.


IET Digital Library new platform from October 14

During the week commencing 14 October 2024 the IET Digital Library (IDL) will be upgraded to a new platform, enabling an improved look and feel, and providing you with a better user experience, according to the publisher.


Le Bon Usage

Since January 2023, Gervais has been unable to offer their online version of Le Bon Usage and the publisher decided to permanently close the Bon Usage platform. Paper versions of this publication will continue.


Factiva releases new interface for academic users

August 6, 2024

Factiva has released a new interface experience for their flagship product. In the words of the publisher, "Factiva’s new interface delivers a modern, easy-to-use interface optimized for search and discovery across devices, making it invaluable for academic research." The content is the same and includes all the available sources as in the legacy site, but search options have been streamlined and offer natural language searching, as well as a shareable URLs and a mobile-responsive site architecture. 


Clarivate to release ProQuest Research Assistant on September 12

Clarivate's new AI-driven Research Assistant feature is scheduled to be released on September 12 for the following databases:

  • ProQuest One Business
  • ProQuest One Education
  • ProQuest One Literature
  • ProQuest One Psychology
  • ProQuest Black Studies
  • ProQuest Women's and Gender Studies

Research Assistant provides users with natural language analysis of texts above 150 words to suggest additional or more targeted keyword searches, as well as providing key takeaways (to assess relevancy), a resume of concepts, and suggestions for further research. 

 

Oxford University Press Law Books have migrated to the Oxford Academic platform

August 14, 2024

The Oxford Academic platform is now home to Oxford University Press law books. Titles from Oxford Competition Law, Oxford Constitutional Law, and Oxford Scholarly Authorities on International Law can all now be found on Oxford Academic or through the WorldCat Sofia catalogue.


McGill Libraries will move to the new Databases A-Z on Wednesday, July 17,

July 16, 2024

In the morning of July 17, we will be making our switch to the new Databases A-Z. Using a new Bootstrap5 layout, we will be able to offer additional features such as notifications for VPN or outages and a cleaner, mobile-friendly interface. Check in for more updates soon.


Accessible Archives moves to History Commons

July 8, 2024

Content from Accessible Archives is moving to History Commons from Coherent Digital. It is already possible to view documents in their new location and links from Accessible Archives will begin redirecting to History Commons at the end of August.


ProQuest platform maintenance, Saturday, July 13, 10:00 pm

July 11, 2024

Starting at 10:00 pm on this coming Saturday (July 13) until 4:00 am Sunday, July 14, ProQuest will be performing platform maintenance with the result that their main ProQuest platform will be unavailable during this time. Click on the link above for a complete list of affected databases.


EBSCO - Upcoming System Maintenance – July 26th, 2024

EBSCO will be performing system maintenance on July 26. They say, "Beginning Friday, July 26, 2024, most EBSCO products, including e-books and research databases, will experience a pause in the availability of new or updated content. All products and services, including EBSCOhost, will be accessible and available for use, but it may take up to 10 days to resume full content currency."


UpToDate ending support for Internet Explorer 11 (IE11)

June 20, 2024

On June 20, UpToDate ended its support for using Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) for UpToDate. To ensure an optimal experience, users are encouraged to transition to using a supported browser, including the latest versions of Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.


OverDrive Classic App

May 1, 2023

The OverDrive classic app is no longer available for iOS and Android, and has been replaced by Libby. Libby is now available on Fire tablets too!


East View Information Services

July 7, 2022

There may be possible delays in some East View online and print subscriptions coming from Ukraine due to the ongoing war. See their original statement.
