Introducing Sofia: the Shared Library Search Tool

Sofia is a shared bilingual discovery tool for all academic libraries in Quebec

Overview

Sofia is a shared, bilingual discovery tool for 18 academic libraries across Quebec.

Although each library has a customized interface with its own colours, logo, and collections, Sofia is a window on the library collections throughout Quebec and around the world.

Sofia is part of the Shared Services Platform (SSP), a project overseen by BCI (Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire). For more information, click on this link.

Content

The Sofia Discovery Tool is designed to find physical and digital items such as books, journals, journal articles, dissertations/theses, audiovisual material, microforms, etc.

Users may select one of three levels to narrow their search results with Sofia:
●    Local (home institution, 'McGill University Library')
●    Consortial (academic libraries in Quebec / 'Bibliothèques universitaires du Québec')
●    International ('Libraries Worldwide')

By default, the search is limited to the local level. By extending to 'Bibliothèques universitaires du Québec' or 'Libraries Worldwide', you will search for items beyond your library’s physical and digital collections.

When you sign in, however, access to digital content is limited to your own library's subscriptions.
