Getting started with NVivo

Welcome to the NVivo Guide! This guide is created to assist new users in familiarizing themselves with some of the main functions of NVivo.

NVivo is a qualitative data analysis software that allows users to organize, analyze and visualize their qualitative data. It allows users to:

• Analyze and manage various types of qualitative data (text, image, audio, video, surveys, social media, etc.)
• Create a database of textual data (e.g. interview transcripts) that can be queried
• Identify themes and topics using codes
• Run queries to explore your data
• Use visualizations to demonstrate connections, make comparisons and discover patterns and

• Available on six computers in the DSH Software Lab (RM-16). Book a computer.
• NVivo offers a 2-week free trial.
