Computing Variables

  1. From the menu, choose Transform > Compute Variable. The “Compute Variable” dialog box will appear.

  1. Type the name for a new variable or an existing variable in Target Variable.
  2. In Numeric Expression field, build an expression to specify how to compute the variable. Optionally, you can use If to enter conditional expressions.
  3. For new variables, select Type & Label (under Target Variable box) to specify the data type and label.
  4. Click OK to compute the variable.
