Career Research & Resources

Looking for a job?

Welcome to the McGill Library's resource toolkit for job seekers. This page is a guide to help you use our resources to refine your job searching techniques. Following the LAMP method in The 2-Hour Job Search: Using Technology to Get the Right Job FASTER by Steven Dalton, we have highlighted the appropriate tools to connect with each stage of your search.

Getting Started

Creating a target employer list in 40 minutes can be very intimidating. Dalton recommends breaking down your technique by focusing on these four categories:

  1. Dream employers
  2. Alumni employers
  3. Posting search
  4. Trend following

In theory this is great, but perhaps you are unsure where to start when filling out your list. Using the databases and instructions below, you can help refine your search!

Before you get started, consider what attracts you to a specific type of employer. What is it that makes you want to work for them? It could be any of the following reasons, or something completely different.

  • Geographic location
  • Size/number of employees
  • Revenue
  • Industry
  • Working culture and environment
