Frequently Asked Questions

How do I insert in-text citations?

IEEE uses a numbering system. Numbers in square brackets are placed in the body of the text and correspond to a numbered reference list at the end of the paper. Citations are numbered in the order in which they appear in the text. If you are making reference to a citation that was previously mentioned, use the same number.

How do I make reference to a specific page in my in-text citation?

If you need to include the page number of your original source, include the number of the reference in square brackets, followed by a comma and then the page number. Example: [5, p. 42]. When referring to multiple consecutive pages, use pp. instead and separate pages with a dash. Example: [5, pp. 42-46]

Where can I find a list of abbreviations used in the IEEE Style?

IEEE uses abbreviations when referencing journal titles. You can find a little of the most common journal abbreviations on IEEE journal and magazine titles and reference abbreviations page. Other commonly used abbreviations can be found on page 23 of the reference guide
