Apple has released two new operating systems, Catalina and Big Sur. These new operating systems are incompatible with older versions of EndNote. EndNote has released an update to solve this problem. Ideally, you should manually install the update BEFORE you update to Catalina or Big Sur. To do so:
Please note that when you open an existing library in X9.3 and later for Mac, it will create a converted version for use with this new database engine.
If you have already upgraded to Catalina or Big Sur before updating your EndNote program to EndNote X9.3.1, the EndNote app will be disabled in the Applications folder. To fix this, you will need to reinstall the EndNote X9 version with the latest update (EndNote X9.3.1) (click on the Download for Mac button).
If you are using EndNote X9 but not EndNote X9.2, please update. To update:
If you are using an older version of EndNote (such as EndNote X8 or earlier) you will need to install EndNote X9. To install EndNote X9, click on the Download for Mac button. Once installed, you will want to check that you are using EndNote X9.2 using the steps above.
Once you have EndNote X9.2 installed, you will need to uninstall your older version of EndNote. To uninstall:
