    • Provides an annotated list of archives from around the world
    • A one-stop place to quickly explore and identify archives on different topics/subjects for your research

  • Library of Congress Digital Collections: Performing Arts
    • A filtered list of digital collections from the Library of Congress on music and performing arts, including the Aaron Copland Collection, the Alan Lomax Collection, and American Choral Music
    • Digitized contents with metadata viewable online. Rights and access information available to guide further use
  • UNESCO: Memory of the World (MoW)
    • A registry of world's documentary heritage, particularly in areas affected by conflict and/or natural disaster, with over 490 archival collections currently in the MoW International Register
    • The Nomination Form of each collection provides essential information about the location, the legal owner(s), the custodian(s), the contents, and the impact of the physical archive
    • Do a keyword search for music in The List tab to see their music-related collections
    • A good resource to see a list of archives in the world with a cultural lens and to locate where they are. Note that MoW does not contain any digitized content of any archive.

Archives on specific topic/subject

  • Musical instrument museums online
    • A database for information on musical instruments from museums and public collections, primarily from Europe with increasing contribution from around the world
    • Images and digitized content searchable by instrument family, instrument makers and museums, and in multiple languages
    • Includes useful technical documentations on best practices and standards for photographing, describing and classifying musical instruments, and information to facilitate metadata harvesting for digital repositories
