Digital projects and assignments

There are different types of Wikipedia assignments:

• Create a new article from scratch
• Substantially edit an existing article
• Fact-check and proofread an existing article
• Evaluate an existing article

Besides the usual benefits of digital projects and assignments, Wikipedia assignments allow students to: 

• Learn how to write in an neutral tone 
• Learn how to explain complex concepts in easy-to-understand terms
• Deal with external criticism
• Understand the backend of a source they heavily consult 

Faculty interested in using Wikipedia assignments in their courses can use the WikiEducation platform. The platform allows faculty to create a course site that includes a week-by-week course outline with trainings and deliverables. The site also allows faculty to follow student progress (including whether they attended trainings) and counts with support from staff at the WikiEducation Foundation.
