Mechanical Engineering: Finding books

Finding books

Use the Library catalogue to find books in print and electronic formats. For example:

  • Do a keyword search: lunar rovers
  • Find a good book, e.g. Lunar and planetary rovers: the wheels of Apollo and the quest for Mars (ebook), and click on the title. You will see a subject heading listed in the LC subject field: Lunar surface vehicles.
  • Click on the subject heading link to retrieve more books about that subject.

Search tips

Truncation symbol: * e.g. system* will retrieve catalogue records containing the words system, systems, systemic, systematic, systemically, systematically, etc.
Phrase searching: "___" e.g. "mobility systems" will retrieve catalogue records containing the phrase mobility systems
Boolean operators: (), AND, OR, NOT
default: AND
Boolean operators must be in capital letters
e.g. mobility systems AND (lunar OR moon) will retrieve catalogue records containing the words mobility AND systems AND either lunar OR moon

Ebook packages

Another way to find ebooks is to search specific ebook packages such as:

  • Knovel (ebook collection for all branches of engineering)
  • CRCnetBASE (ebook collection for science, technology, and medicine)
  • IEEE ebooks (ebook collection for engineering, specializing in electrical engineering)

For other ebook packages, please consult here.
