Learn how to use music software available through the Marvin Duchow Music Library

Video software

Video software includes software used to edit and view media in video formats. 

DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and VLC Media Player are available on selected computers and circulating laptops in the Marvin Duchow Music Library.

DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve is a video editing software offered by Blackmagic Design. This software handles various facets of video post-production such as editing, colour correction, visual effects, motion graphics, audio editing, and delivery. There are two versions of the DaVinci Resolve software: a robust free version with some limitations and a full, studio version.

DaVinci Resolve is used in video production courses offered by the Schulich School of Music, and is available on selected computers and circulating laptops at the Marvin Duchow Music Library. 

Training - Blackmagic Design

  • Video and PDF training materials developed by Blackmagic Design, including file downloads for users to follow along with the projects/lessons in the tutorials.

Motion Array - Learn DaVinci Resolve

  • Tutorial articles from Motion Array, sometimes including video clips demonstrating the text instructions, ranging from a beginner editing guide to tutorials for specific visual effects and troubleshooting
  • For users of all levels
  • Available in English only

Pix'n Light DaVinci Resolve YouTube Playlist

  • A YouTube playlist of tutorials and tips on how to use DaVinci Resolve, in French
  • For users of all levels
  • Available in French only

MrAlexTech DaVinci Resolve YouTube Playlist

Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro iconFinal Cut Pro is a video editing software for MacOS offered by Apple. It is also available for iPad. This software handles various facets of video post-production such as editing, audio editing, motion graphics, effects, colour correction, and delivery. Apple offers a 90-day free trial of Final Cut Pro for first time users.

Final Cut Pro is available on selected computers and circulating laptops in the Marvin Duchow Music Library.

Final Cut Pro - Training and Resources

  • Links to training resources curated by Apple, including documentation, forums, free web tutorials (like articles from The Beat blog and PowerUp Training, or videos from RippleTraining and Pixel Film Studios) and other free and paid training resources.
  • For users of all levels
  • Available in English and French
  • Tip: most of the third-party training resources are available only in English, but the User Guide can be accessed in French by switching the language using the link at the bottom of the page

Motion Array - Final Cut Pro Tutorials

VLC

VLC icon

VLC Media Player is a free, open source multimedia player available for Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. It is equipped with features such as hardware decoding, audio/video filters, and subtitle syncing.

VLC Media Player is available on selected computers and circulating laptops in the Marvin Duchow Music Library.

VideoLan Forums

  • An active and official community forum where users can discuss and ask questions about VLC media player.
