Tips for finding books

To find books in print and electronic formats, consult the library catalogue: the Sofia Discovery tool.

Search tips

Truncation symbol: * e.g. sustainab* will retrieve catalogue records containing the words sustainable, sustainability, sustainably, etc.
Phrase searching: "___" e.g. "sustainable infrastructure" will retrieve catalogue records containing the phrase sustainable infrastructure
Boolean operators: (), AND, OR, NOT
default: AND
e.g. infrastructure AND (green OR sustainable) will retrieve catalogue records containing the word infrastructure AND either green OR sustainable

Locating a book by call number

You can locate a print book by call number by going to the Sofia Discovery tool and typing a specific call number in the search box. For example, typing nu: HE151 V293 2014 in the search box will retrieve "Sustainable transportation systems engineering". Please note that you can be precise or general when listing a call number (e.g. searching just nu: HE151 will retrieve several books in the general subject area of transportation).

Virtual browsing

Once you locate an ebook or a print book of interest, you can browse the shelves virtually to find other books on similar topics. First, locate a print book of interest by searching the Sofia Discovery tool using keywords and limiting to print books from options on the left-hand side of the results screen. Next, click on "Browse the shelf" where you will see neighboring books available in print and as ebooks. For example, books near to Waste management in climate change and sustainability perspectives: organic and medical waste include Waste recovery and management: an approach toward sustainable development goals and University campus solid waste management: combining life cycle assessment and analytical hierarchy process.
