Traditionally, indigenous laws were developed through the sharing and passing down of oral stories from one generation to the next. These stories encompassed and emphasized the importance of preventing and minimizing overconsumption and conflicts amongst communities. Traditional stories have been a way for communities to develop laws and regulations to respect the land and environment surrounding each community.
