Canadian Organizations

  • Animal Alliance of Canada Animal Alliance of Canada (AAC) is a federally incorporated non-profit organization committed to the protection of all animals and to the promotion of a harmonious relationship among humans, non-humans and the environment. As a non-profit, we use electoral politics and lobbying as strategies to make the legislators pass sound animal and environmental protection laws.
  • Animal Justice Animal Justice is the only organization of its kind making sure that animals have a legal voice in Canada. Their team of compassionate lawyers and advocates fight for stronger legal protections for animals.
  • Animal Health Emergency Management Project The Animal Health Emergency Management (AHEM) project is focussed on industry relevant resources to minimize the impacts of serious livestock diseases now and into the future. Our objective is to strengthen emergency preparedness, response and recovery, through increased industry awareness, capacity, and confidence.
  • CALSG Animal Law Group A collection of educational resources compiled by a national group of professionals, lawyers and academics, working in animal law
  • CBA British Columbia - Animal Law Section A section of the CBA BC that studies various issues involving wild and domestic animals and educates the legal community about the same. Animal Law is an evolving area of practice and this CBABC Section welcomes new ideas, insights and assistance.
  • Humane Canada Humane Canada, (previously known as the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies,) is Canada’s federation of SPCAs and humane societies. They bring together organizations that work with and care for animals to end animal cruelty, improve animal protection and promote the humane treatment of all animals.
  • Canadian Food Inspection Agency - Animals A Government of Canada website providing information about terrestrial and aquatic animal health, animal pathogens, livestock feed, veterinary biologics, and the Chief Veterinary Officer for Canada.
  • Government of Canada- Species at Risk Public Registry In this registry you will find documents relating to the administration of the Species at Risk Act (SARA). The act is part of Canada’s strategy to protect hundreds of wild plants and animal species from becoming extinct, and to help in their recovery.
  • International Fund for Animal Welfare IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) is a global non-profit helping animals and people thrive together. They are experts and everyday people, working across seas, oceans, and in more than 40 countries around the world. 
  • National Farm Animal Care Council NFACC is the only organization in the world that brings together animal welfare groups, enforcement, government and farmers under a collective decision-making model for advancing farm animal welfare. 
  • Zoocheck Canada Zoocheck is a Canadian-based international wildlife protection charity established in 1984 to promote and protect the interests and well-being of wild animals. Zoocheck works with a broad range of collaborating partners around the world.

Foreign and International Organizations

  • American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. 
  • Animal Law Resource Center The Animal Law Resource Center provides access to legislation and legal matters pertaining to animals and the law. Information concerning animal cruelty, animal control, laboratory animal welfare, wildlife management and other issues concerning animals in our society
  • Animal Legal Defense Fund The Animal Legal Defense Fund files high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, provides free legal assistance and training to prosecutors in their fight against animal cruelty, supports animal protection legislation, and provides resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the field of animal law.
  • Animal Legal & Historical Web Center A comprehensive repository of information about animal law, including: over 1200 full text cases (US, historical, and UK), over 1400 US statutes, over 60 topics and comprehensive explanations, legal articles on a variety of animal topics and an international collection.
  • Animal Welfare Information Center USDA The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) provides information, products and services related to the improved care and use of animals in research, testing, and teaching as described in the Animal Welfare Act.
  • Animal Welfare Legislation: Protecting Pets (UK Gov) Guidance and legislation from the United Kingdom government covering pet welfare and animal cruelty.
  • Association of Lawyers for Animal Welfare (UK) The UK Centre for Animal Law (A-LAW) is a charity that brings together lawyers to promote knowledge and education about the law relating to animal protection, to achieve a better legal framework for animals, and to see existing laws being applied properly.
  • The Humane Society of the United States A US charity that responds to large-scale cruelty cases and disasters around the world. 
  • World Animal Net World Animal Net (WAN) was established to improve communication and coordination among the world's animal protection groups. Today, WAN is the world's largest network of animal protection societies, with over 3,000 affiliates in more than 100 countries and Consultative Status at the United Nations.
  • Global Animal Law Association GAL is an independent and worldwide pioneering authority for the health and protection of animals through the law.
