Writing Resources

This guide provides resources for your academic writing, library research, citation styles and McGill Writing Centre courses.

Which citation style is required?

Academic disciplines differ in the type of citation style used to write essays and prepare bibliographies. Find out the required style from your professor. Then, review the resources on the Library's Citation Guides.

There are three major citation styles:

  • APA - used in social sciences, education, engineering and business,
  • Chicago (or Turabian) - used in music and many other fields,
  • MLA - used in the humanities.
