What is CANSIM?

CANSIM (Canadian Socio-Economic Information Management System) is a Statistics Canada database containing over 10 million time series. It is a detailed source of Canadian economic data, with significant health and social content as well.

It is recommended that you use CANSIM for research that requires time series and detailed economic data. Although some social data (such as population estimates and vital statistics) is available, CANSIM is not necessarily the best source for social data. See the Subject tabs at the top of this page for other sources of Canadian statistical data.

Accessing CANSIM

There are two ways of accessing CANSIM data:

  • CANSIM @ Statistics Canada
    The full CANSIM database, but with no visualization features available. Updated daily.
